Voices from the World

On behalf of El Colegio de Mexico and Center for Asian and African Studies, I cordially congratulate Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) for its 30 years of tirelessly promoting the discernment of Japan in the global context through various types of financing and invaluable assistance linked to the Japanese business and academic sectors. For El Colegio de Mexico (colmex), which, among many others, is interested in the study of Japan, its culture, its economy, its policy, its history and its relations with the world, it is particularly important to find support from a foundation as versatile as TIFO which allows deepen the knowledge of Japan and spread that knowledge all over the world. Likewise, the humanistic and Social Sciences vocation that El Colegio de Mexico has played over 70 years is distinguished by having built a great cultural and academic work to create and disseminate knowledge on Japanese culture mainly among Spanish-speaking countries.

The complexity of today's world needs more and better ability to understand their rapid transformations and also need people and institutions to develop this task. Toshiba International Foundation and El Colegio have had the study on Japan as a common objective and both institutions have been faithful to the commitments arising from that. The virtuous relationship between TIFO and colmex is very lucky in terms of complementarity and reflects the confidence that this relationship will endure for many more years. Personally, I want to make a recognition of TIFO endeavour to broaden their horizons of financial assistance at a time when many other institutions around the world are reducing them. I welcome and I very much appreciate the efforts performed by TIFO to meet its targets in complicated times. There is only one thing left for me to say as a conclusion that also reflects the feelings of El Colegio de Mexico: Bravo, TIFO!

　メキシコ大学院大学アジア・アフリカ研究センターを代表して、私は東芝国際交流財団（TIFO）が過去30年間、資金的援助を含むさまざまな形の支援を通じて、世界情勢の中でのビジネスセクターや学術界において、一貫して日本の認知度向上に取り組んでこられたことに心から祝辞を述べさせて頂きます。当大学は、とりわけ、日本の文化、その経済、その政策、その歴史、そして世界との関係に関心を持っておりますが、日本の知識を深め、その知識を世界中に広めることを可能にするTIFOのような柔軟性を持った財団から支援を得ることは極めて重要です。同様に、当大学は、70年以上に渡り、人文科学および社会科学分野において、スペイン語圏の国々を中心に日本文化に関する知識を創造し、広めるための優れた文化的および学術的研究基盤を築いてまいりました。

　今日の複雑な世界情勢は、急速な速度で進行する変革を理解するために益々優れた能力を必要とし、またそのニーズに応えるための人材と組織を必要とします。TIFOとメキシコ大学院大学は日本研究という共通の基盤を持ち、両方の機関はその使命を果たすために誠実に取り組んできたわけですが、両者の好意的な関係は、相互補完性の点で非常に喜ばしい関係であり、この関係がさらに長年にわたって続くことへの信頼を反映しています。私はTIFOが、世界中の他の多くの機関が予算を削減する中でも、日本研究に対する資金援助の範囲を拡大し、困難な時期においてさえ、その目標を達成しようとするその努力に敬意と謝辞を述べたいと思います。メキシコ大学院大学を代表し、私から「ブラボー、TIFO！」と申し上げたいと思います。
