Voices from the World

The Toshiba International Foundation is celebrating its 30th anniversary. As Chairman of the Fondation France-Japon de l'EHESS, an institution which has largey benefited from the generosity of the Toshiba International Foundation, I would like to congratulate TIFO and express my sincere gratitude on this occasion. Our own Foundation was created 10 years ago and from the outset, at a time when FFJ was just an idea, we received strong support from TIFO.

One reason that accounts for this support is, I think, that we share the same values and the same intuition: seminars, conferences and symposia are extremely important to promote a better understanding of Japan in the world but also to prompt cooperation between Japanese scholars and foreign scholars. International mobility and exchange is key to avoid misunderstanding.

What makes TIFO really special is its openness to new projects and initiative, its great professionalism in the screening and selection processes, and its will to follow up the results and outcomes of the selected projects.

I wish TIFO a very happy anniversary, and I sincerely hope that it will continue to be actively engaged in promoting international and intercultural dialogue.

　東芝国際交流財団が30周年を迎えられるにあたり、日頃より貴財団に多大なるご支援を頂いている日仏財団の理事長として、心より感謝の意を表明したいと思います。

　私ども日仏財団は10年前に設立されましたが、財団設立の構想の段階から、TIFOには心強い支援を頂きました。

　振り返るに、貴財団からご支援を受けることができた1つの理由は、日本の研究者と海外の研究者間の迅速な協力を促進するためにも、また世界での対日理解を促進するためにも、セミナーや会議、シンポジウムの開催はとても重要であるという同じ価値感と感覚を我々が共有していたことにあると思います。国際的な機動力を持った交流は、国際的な誤解を避けるための鍵と言えます。

　我々研究者にとってTIFOを特別な存在にしているのは、新たなプロジェクトや取り組みに対するオープン性、プロジェクトの審査段階において示される優れたプロフェッショナリズム、そして選定したプロジェクトの結果や成果に対する丁寧なフォロー姿勢です。

　私はTIFOが素晴らしい記念日をお迎えになると共に、今後ともTIFOが国際間と異文化間の活発な対話を促進されることを心より祈念しております。
