Throughout the last 21 years, TIFO has provided us with reliable support that has helped us to build the Department of Japanese Studies into the leading organization in Vietnam in profound research and education about Japan, as well as strengthening the close relationship between two countries.

From 1998 - the second year after establishment of our Department - to 2002, we were truly grateful to TIFO for sponsoring our update publications in Japanese, seminars on Oriental Studies and Japanese Studies, multiple translating and publishing projects of books about Japan, many of which became essential resources for Japanese studies during the period.

The next 10 years had witnessed remarkable progress when we were supported by TIFO to send our young lecturers and students to Beppu University, Showa Women’s University, Nara Women’s University... to take part in short - term exchange programs about Japanese culture, which significantly helped to promote our connections with Japanese universities as well as widen the network of Japanese Studies in Vietnam. After the short exchange-term of 2 weeks, most selected students gained a great motivation to seek other kinds of support to come back to Japan to further their studies.

In 2008 and 2013, thanks to TIFO’s support, we have successfully organized two international conferences to celebrate 35 years and 40 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam. The two conferences were evaluated to much strengthen the network of Japanese studies in Vietnam and ASEAN region. From 2014 to 2016, also with TIFO support, we have organized three workshops for young lecturers and PhD students in which they had the opportunity to exchange their ideas with Vietnamese and Japanese experts, as well as improve their research topics. In these years, we have built our strong relations with universities of JSA (Japanese Studies in ASEAN) network and became a member of the JSA steering committee.

From 2017, we started a new program entitled “Internationalization Initiatives of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU Hanoi): Promoting Academic Exchange in Japanese Studies between Vietnam, Europe and the US”. We have sent representatives to European, American, Canadian universities for the pre-feasibility study and feasibility study of this program. Through multiple discussions about cooperation opportunities, our Department and partner universities have outlined the joint plan for the next four years (2019-2022). We are planning to implement this program from this year onward.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of TIFO, and on behalf of the Department, I would like to express our sincere congratulations and most profound gratitude to your kind supports. Thank you for accompanying us in the last 21 years of remarkable growth. We are fully committed to further expanding the Japanese research network.

　過去21年間に渡り、TIFOが当大学に対して信頼できる支援を提供してくださったおかげで、日本学科は日本に関する充実した研究と教育を行うことが出来るベトナムの最も有力な組織に発展させることができました。また、ベトナムと日本の二国間の緊密な関係の強化に貢献されました。

　当学科が創立2年目を迎えた1998年から2002年までの間、TIFOからは、日本語での最新の出版物、東洋学と日本学に関するセミナー、日本に関する書籍の翻訳と出版のプロジェクトを助成して頂きました。それらの資料は日本研究に欠かせない資料となりました。

　その後の10年は、TIFOの支援によって我々の若い講師や学生が日本の別府大学、昭和女子大学、奈良女子大学などに日本文化に関する短期交換プログラムに参加させることが出来たため、目覚しい進歩に繋がりました。日本の大学との関係を発展させ、ベトナムにおける日本研究のネットワークを広げるのに役立ちました。 2週間という短期間の交換留学の後、ほとんどの学生は、日本に関する勉強を続けたくなり、日本にまた戻ってくるための奨学金等の助成を求めて積極的に他の団体へアプローチするようになりました。

　2008年と2013年には、TIFOの支援のおかげで、日越外交関係樹立35年周年と40周年を祝うために2つの国際会議を開催することが出来ました。 2つの会議は、ベトナムとASEAN地域における日本研究のネットワークをさらに強化するものと評価されました。 2014年から2016年まで、TIFOの支援を受けて、私たちはベトナムや日本の専門家と意見交換したり、研究テーマを改善するための3つのワークショップを開催しました。ここ数年、私たちはJSAネットワークの大学との強い関係を築き、JSA運営委員会のメンバーとなりました。

　2017年からは、「ベトナム国立大学ハノイ校東洋学部の国際化イニシアチブ：ベトナムとヨーロッパとアメリカの間の日本研究における学術交流の促進」と題した新しいプログラムを開始しました。 私たちはヨーロッパ、アメリカ、カナダの大学にこのプログラムを実施する前のフィージビリティスタディを行うための代表団を派遣しました。協力の機会についての複数の議論を通して、私たちの学部と各国の協力校は今後4年間（2019-2022）の共同計画の概要を作成し、このプログラムを着実に実行していく予定です。

　TIFOの30周年を記念し、日本学部を代表して、私は私達からの誠実なお祝いの気持ちと親切なご支援に対し、深く感謝したいと思います。私たちは、日本の研究ネットワークをさらに拡大していく所存です。
