Voices from the World

It is our great honor to be a part of the celebration for TIFO’s 30th anniversary this year. This is because we have known each other for almost 30 years, too.

In Thailand the Japanese language is one of the important foreign languages for students who want to further their study in domestic universities and in Japan, and also for ones who want to work at Japanese enterprises. The need for Japanese language schools and teachers is therefore increasing year by year. The Old Japan Students’ Association, Kingdom of Thailand (OJSAT) has been operating 3 branches of Japanese language schools in Bangkok since 1964 to serve those students.

OJSAT has been organizing seminars on Japanese language teaching technique for Thai and Japanese teachers for more than 20 years now. We are positive that with support from TIFO, OJSAT can effectively contribute to Japanese language teaching in Thailand. There are some differences in our two languages, such as the intonation and the grammar which are specific to both nations. This has caused difficulty for the Japanese language teachers for these long years. At TIFO seminars, more than 100 Japanese language teachers each year have been polishing their skill.

OJSAT also has the privilege to take part in the Toshiba Youth Club Asia project, which renders good chance for high school students to share experience with youth from Asian countries.

For the past 30 years of TIFO activities to promote education and culture between Japan and Asian countries, we at OJSAT have witnessed the goodwill and the superb results of those projects.

As for TIFO’s support for Japanese language teaching technique seminar, OJSAT would regard the support as the most valuable one, because it is the support really needed for the effective teaching activity in foreign countries.

As for the TYCA project, we at OJSAT would regard the project as the most important one, because the youth attended this project could experience Japanese culture while they befriend with the Japanese high school students, which would be a lifelong friendship.

We wish that TIFO will continue to do good work for many years to come, for the sake of educational and cultural exchange between our countries.

　今年、TIFOが30周年を迎えられ、皆様と共にお祝いをすることが出来ることを大変光栄に思います。私達は30年近くにわたりお互いに親交してまいりました。

　タイでは、日本語は、国内の大学や日本で勉強したい学生、そして日本の企業で働きたい学生にとって、重要な外国語の1つです。そのため、日本語学校や教師の必要性は年々高まっています。タイ王国元日本留学生協会（OJSAT）は、1964年以来、バンコクで日本語学校の3つの支部を運営しています。

　OJSATは、20年以上にわたり、タイ人と日本人の教師のための日本語教授法に関するセミナーを開催してきました。 TIFOの支援を受けて、OJSATはタイでの日本語教育に効果的に貢献できると確信しています。私たちの二つの言語には、イントネーションと文法のように、両方の国に特有の違いがいくつかあります。このことは、長い間日本語教師にとって困難をもたらしてきました。 TIFOセミナーでは、毎年100人以上の日本語教師がスキルを磨いています。

　OJSATはまた、Toshiba Youth Asia Club（TYCA）に参加しています。これは、高校生がアジア諸国の若者と経験を共有する良い機会となるでしょう。

　日本とアジア諸国の間の教育と文化を促進するための過去30年間のTIFOの活動を通して、私たちOJSATはそれらのプロジェクトの素晴らしい成果を目の当たりにしてきました。

　TIFOによる日本語教育技術セミナーへの支援は、OJSATはその支援を最も価値のあるものと考えております。それは、海外での効果的な教育活動に本当に必要な支援だからです。

　TYCAプロジェクトに参加した青少年は、日本の高校生と親しくしながら日本の文化を体験することができ、生涯の友情を育むことができたので、このプロジェクトをOJSATでは最も重要なプロジェクトと考えております。

　私たちは、TIFOがこれからも、私たちの国々の間の教育的、文化的交流のために、素晴らしいお仕事を続けられていくことを願っています。
