Voices from the World

I am delighted to be able to offer a few words in honour of the 30th Anniversary of the Toshiba International Foundation.

Ever since 1989, TIFO has been an importance presence for all of us working in Japanese Studies. Countless research projects, seminars, conferences and workshops could never have taken place without your generous assistance. Thanks to you, overseas scholars have been able to introduce Japanese culture to a much wider audience, and to deepen understanding. In a troubled world, TIFO had shown how proper investment and carefully targeted funding can result generate advances in peace and mutual respect.

Most particularly, the recent web project of Japan Insights had had enormous outreach appeal, and been the prompt for many people to engage, for the first time, with Japan.

You have been a wonderful presence throughout the Heisei Period, and I hope this continued through the next reign too.

Offering you many congratulations, and every best wishes for the next thirty years!

　東芝国際交流財団創立30周年を祝し、一言申し上げます。

　1989年以来、TIFOは日本研究に従事する私たち皆にとって大事な存在です。数多くの研究プロジェクト、セミナー、会議およびワークショップが、TIFOからの寛大な援助なくしては実施されなかったかもしれません。

　おかげさまで、海外の研究者は日本文化をより多くの人々に紹介できただけなく、自身も理解を深めることができました。課題多き現代にあって、TIFOは、いかに適切な投資や慎重に選んだ資金提供が友好と相互の敬意増進につながるかを示してくれました。

　特に、最近のJapan-InsightsのWebプロジェクトは大いなる対外発信であり、多くの日本と初めて関わる人々への刺激となったことでしょう。

　TIFOは平成の間、見事な在り方を続けてこられました。改元後も、そうあり続けていただくよう願っています。改めておめでとうございます、そして続く30年間のご発展を心からお祈りします。
