3rd Toshiba Lecture in Japanese Arts and Science
Over the last three years, this lecture series has explored how the arts and science have maintained close links throughout Japan’s modernization. In 2016, the subject was botanical illustration and botany, an area that has always, globally, seen a close relationship between art and science. Ms. Yamanaka Masumi, one of only three botanical illustrators at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, delivered the lecture, and highlighted the many strands that bring together arts and science in the world of botanical illustration, as exemplified by the historical and contemporary collections of Flora Japonica (Japanese flora).
