TIFO supports projects to foster students and young researchers who will major in Japan studies or contribute to deepen international understanding of Japan and to strengthen the relations between Japan and other countries.

30th National Japan Bowl

The Japan-America Society of Washington DC hosted 168 high school Japanese language students (56 teams) from 27 schools across the United States for a two-day virtual Japanese language and culture competition on April 21 and 22, 2022. The competition tested students’ Japanese communication skills and knowledge of Japan (culture, society, daily life, history, geography, current topics, etc.) across three levels in a quiz bowl format.

In September 2022, the university introduced Japanese studies. TIFO has supported academic staff and the students taking the courses with a donation to the university’s library of a set of language textbooks, and books on Japanese culture and literature to the university’s library.
